Our Story

Oneka Technologies, a global leader in sustainable wave-powered desalination technologies, has developed a robust, marinized Data Acquisition (DAQ) system to meet the demands of collecting a wide variety of data streams in harsh, dynamic marine environments. Among other functions, the system tracks a variety of data in real time, to:

• Ensure marine assets are secure and on station;
• Monitor surrounding ocean water characteristics and quality;
• Analyze desalination processes for quality and regulatory purposes;
• Maintain and support onshore digital twins;
• Manage powering and batteries;
• Record asset motion and understand wave dynamics;
• Measure and observe structural loads.

Existing solutions were too expensive, not adaptable enough, and not robust enough for the complexity of the marine environment. Oneka’s DAQ resolved this market gap, initially in collaboration with University of Sherbrooke researchers, and later by continuous improvement with each successive series of asset deployments. The technology has been validated with over 10 successful missions in 3 countries and has recorded over 400 GB of telemetry data. It is a tool that is used as the data lifeline for Oneka’s products and is now being made available to others that share similar needs as our company.
